Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Private Equity-Backed | Consumer Products Industry

Our client, a growing private equity-backed consumer products company , is seeking a strategic, hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. The CFO will lead all financial operations while playing a critical role in driving growth, expanding retail and eCommerce channels, optimizing working capital, and preparing the company for future liquidity events. This role requires an experienced finance leader with a deep understanding of consumer product economics, inventory management, and the fast-paced nature of omnichannel distribution.

This is a unique opportunity to build and scale a finance function in a brand-forward, operationally complex, and margin-sensitive environment .

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO and private equity sponsors to define and execute growth strategies, including geographic expansion, channel diversification, and new product development.
  • Translate business objectives into financial strategies, metrics, and action plans to maximize profitability and enterprise value.
  • Lead board-level communication and performance reporting, providing insight into financial performance, market trends, and strategic initiatives.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead all budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling efforts across the organization.
  • Develop and refine key performance indicators including contribution margin, SKU productivity, customer acquisition cost, and channel profitability.
  • Provide proactive guidance to sales, marketing, and operations leaders based on financial analytics and trends.

Accounting & Reporting

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
  • Lead inventory accounting, COGS analysis, and standard costing in coordination with supply chain and operations.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, lenders, and tax advisors.

Capital & Working Capital Management

  • Maintain tight control over cash flow, inventory, payables, and receivables to ensure healthy working capital.
  • Support capital raise efforts and manage banking, lender, and equity sponsor relationships.
  • Optimize investment in marketing and product innovation to balance growth and profitability.

M&A and Integration

  • Lead financial due diligence, valuation, and integration for bolt-on acquisitions or new brand launches.
  • Build scalable systems and financial infrastructure to support multi-brand or multi-channel expansion.
  • Act as the finance lead on cross-functional integration teams post-close.

Team Development

  • Build and mentor a high-performing finance and accounting team with capabilities in FP&A, inventory control, and financial reporting.
  • Instill a culture of ownership, performance, and collaboration across the organization.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and business partner across functional departments.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including experience as CFO or VP of Finance in a consumer products, CPG, or omnichannel brand .
  • Prior success operating in a private equity-backed environment with deep exposure to board reporting, strategic planning, and value creation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of inventory planning, supply chain finance, retail sell-in/sell-through dynamics , and gross margin management.
  • ERP and reporting system experience (e.g., NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Power BI).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead M&A transactions, implement financial discipline, and build scalable finance teams in high-growth environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required; MBA and/or CPA strongly preferred.
