Job Description
Blue Ribbon Fire Company is seeking a skilled and reliable Fuel Tender Driver to support our wildfire response efforts across the country. This is a contracting position, with assignments typically lasting up to two weeks, deployed nationwide as needed by our partners, including the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), and National Park Service (NPS).
As a Fuel Tender Driver , you’ll play a critical role in fueling fire equipment, staff vehicles, refrigeration trailers, and camp lights with diesel and gasoline to keep operations running smoothly on the frontlines of wildfire response. You will be responsible for ensuring that all equipment is fueled efficiently and safely, supporting the logistics of fire camps and fire suppression efforts. Additionally, you may be required to handle fuel payments via credit card using QuickBooks to ensure accurate transaction processing.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive a Type 1 (4,500-gallon) or Type 2 (2,800-gallon) fuel tender to deliver diesel and gasoline to fire equipment, vehicles, and other camp essentials.
Safely fuel and maintain fire suppression equipment, staff vehicles, refrigeration trailers, and camp lights.
Ensure accurate fuel levels and maintain detailed records of fuel deliveries.
Communicate effectively with the Wildfire Management Response Team to coordinate fuel distribution.
Handle fuel payments via credit card using QuickBooks, ensuring proper processing and record-keeping.
Maintain a high level of safety while operating fuel tenders in emergency response environments.
Drive and operate manual transmission fuel tenders (experience with manual transmission is required).
Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies while on assignment.
Qualifications:
Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with required endorsements.
Experience driving manual transmission vehicles.
Ability to work in high-stress, emergency environments.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in challenging conditions.
Previous experience in wildfire response or heavy equipment operation is preferred but not required.
Ability to travel and deploy on short notice for assignments lasting up to two weeks.
Basic familiarity with QuickBooks or similar accounting software for credit card transactions is preferred.
Please Note: This is a contract position with as-needed deployments , meaning the work is not steady but will be on a temporary basis during wildfire response periods. Flexibility and availability are key for this role.
Travel and Expenses:
When an assignment is available, Blue Ribbon Fire Company will cover all travel expenses to get you to the deployment site. This includes flying you to the truck location, so you can focus on the mission without worrying about the logistics. We handle your travel arrangements to ensure you get where you need to be safely and efficiently.
