This position reports to

R&D Senior Engineer

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting products for the utility market. You will collaborate with production engineers and field service technicians to ensure the quality and safety of our products. The work model for the role is: onsite (#Li-Onsite). This role is contributing to the Electrification Installation Products division in Hackettstown, NJ. You will be mainly accountable for:

1. Working in a cross-functional team to develop new products and product enhancements and supporting manufacturing in product sustainability, conducting/coordinating parts obsolescence design reviews and implementation.
2. Independently performing various engineering tasks involving such functions as analysis, design, development, and testing, while working from drawings, specifications, and other pertinent information.
3. Participating in the investigation of technical problems in manufacturing and establishing corrective action plans.
4. Supporting application engineering in technical discussions with customers and partners, while also supporting field service technicians in evaluating field failures, troubleshooting the source of failure, and reviewing and approving reports.
5. Contributing your own creative ideas to R&D projects and proposing follow-up activities based on project results, while also recognizing the importance of intellectual property in the industry and the advantage of ABB's patents relevant to your own area of research, as well as grasping risk management in R&D projects.

Qualifications for the role

• Bachelors degree in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 1 year of experience working in a product development and manufacturing support environment.
• Direct work experience supporting production, parts obsolescence, testing high voltage products, and troubleshooting issues using schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Functional knowledge of CREO, SolidWorks, Excel, Word, and MRP software is preferred; Experience developing firmware using C is a plus.
• Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
