LRC MISSION STATEMENT : The Salvation Army Lighthouse Recovery Center is committed to helping individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and who have a problematic substance use by providing a drug-free and supportive living and learning environment, encouraging spiritual growth and strengthening life skills necessary in their transition to a more meaningful and fulfilling life

JOB SUMMARY:

Residential Assistanst in this class are responsible for the care of clients with substance use disorder living in a residential treatment center or as an outpatient basis during assigned shifts (regular, swing and/or graveyard shifts).

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWKLEDGE:

High school or General Education diploma. Some college experience preferred.

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Training and experience in recovery from substance use disorder desired.
• Should have general knowledge of island social services and be able to assist with applications.
• Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Must be responsible, with good anger management skills, and be able to handle spontaneous situations capably.
• Prioritize multiple work tasks to meet tight deadlines

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Responds to the needs of the clients.
• Ensures the safety and security of residents and personnel utilizing the building after normal working hours.
• Performs a variety of sub-professional tasks such as taking temperature, checking blood pressure, and monitoring medications and simple treatments.
• Escorts and accompanies clients and assists and participates with clients’ daily living experience as assigned.
• Serves as a socializing agent, both in individual and group contacts with clients.
• Observes and reports clients behavioral and client-staff interactions.
• Assists in the maintenance of a safe, orderly and therapeutic environment.
• Ensures that residents and personnel utilizing the building behave according to rules, policies, and guidelines set by management.
• Must maintain a lifestyle of sobriety from illicit drugs.
• May be assigned tasks and responsibilities at or for any Salvation Army unit on Guam or Micronesia.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

R equires the following:

• Sitting; stooping, kneeling, bending, standing; and walking
• Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination
• Use of vision
• Ability to lift and/or carry at least 25 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds Driving a vehicle
• May require traveling by airplane

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:

• Use general office equipment such as computers, printers, photocopiers, calculators, etc.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Most work will be conducted indoors at the Lighthouse Recovery center.
• Attendance in trainings both in-house and out in the community is highly recommended and may be made mandatory from time to time

OTHER REQUIREMENTS;

Able to meet basic standards of physical, mental health, and communication demands specified by the State and/or professional accreditation standards applicable to this agency. Initial/Annual criminal background check, pre-employment, annual physical examination, TP test, and driver abstract compliance with agency policy as required.
